How to Enroll

For the MS program, tuition and fees are listed  here. The mathematics program provides a tuition scholarship covering 50% of the tuition, but masters students are responsible for the remaining 50% tuition and all of the academic fees. There is no teaching assistantship available for this program.

Math PhD Program

The department offers a PhD in Mathematics intended for students with an undergraduate mathematics degree or equivalent experience.

Programs are available for graduate students, including active research seminars, summer research or internship assistance, and financial support for travel to research conferences.

Areas of Research

Masters Program

The masters program is designed for students wishing to pursue a career in industry or enter a mathematics PhD program.

The MS program requires a total of 30 credit hours. Students can follow a pure or computational mathematics track and may choose a thesis option or a course-only option.

Emory Mathematics has more than 28 regular faculty, as well as several research associates and visiting researchers.

Many research projects in the department are funded through grants from the National Science Foundation, the U.S. Department of Energy, the U.S. Department of Defense and the National Institutes of Health. Research produced by our faculty and graduate students is published in the most respected mathematics and computer science journals and proceedings, and each year our faculty are invited to present research lectures at international conferences around the world.

Our distinguished faculty have been recognized with honors including multiple invited ICM lectures, Fellows of the American Mathematical Society and Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics, Guggenheim Fellowships, NSF CAREER Awards, NSF Director’s Distinguished Teaching Scholar Award, Packard Fellowships, and Presidential CAREER Awards.

Students


Approximately 30 PhD students are enrolled at any one time, with 6 - 7 students entering each year from all parts of the world.

Our students have been successful in receiving prestigious national graduate fellowships, including the NSF Graduate fellowshipDOE Graduate FellowshipDOD Graduate Fellowship, and the NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship.

Graduates of our programs pursue careers in academia, government, and the private sector. Our recent PhD graduates have been in demand, earning research postdocs at top academic institutions such as Bristol, Carnegie Mellon, Georgia Tech, Humboldt, Illinois, Max Planck, Princeton, Rice, Rutgers, Stanford, and UCLA, as well as Argonne, Lawrence Berkeley, Lawrence Livermore, Los Alamos, and Oak Ridge National Laboratories. A previous PhD student attended the Lindau Meeting for Nobel Laureates, and several recent students have been successful in attaining the prestigious NSF Postdoctoral Fellowship.

In the last 10 years, our PhD students have assumed tenure track positions at prestigious schools including Arizona State, Bucknell, Brigham Young, Hamburg, London School of Economics, Southern Florida, Tennessee (Knoxville), Tufts, Vanderbilt, Virginia Tech, and Western Michigan. Recent graduates pursuing private sector careers have been hired by companies such as Google, IBM, Insight Data Science, Intel, JP Morgan Chase, Microsoft, Standard and Poor’s, Siemens, and Wolfram Research.
