Grade Appeals

To appeal a final grade for one of our Mathematics courses, please follow the steps below:

Step 1: Contact the instructor

  • Students should contact the instructor of the course to resolve the grade dispute. Students are encouraged to provide documentation to their instructor when discussing their concerns.

Step 2: If the student cannot resolve the matter with their instructor, they must provide a written appeal to the Director of Undergraduate Studies (DUS). You may provide the following information in your written appeal:

  • State your reasoning for requesting the appeal.
  • Provide the course instructor, name, and number.
  • Provide documentation of your discussion with the instructor and the result of these conversations.
  • Provide the amendment being sought after for the course grade.

The DUS will discuss the dispute with the instructor. A subcommittee will evaluate all provided information. Once a resolution has been reached, the DUS will reach out to the student to provide their decision. If the dispute is with the DUS, then the Department Chair will manage the evaluation and resolution process.
